TWD - Honey Peach Icecream - it's peachy keen

Oh, baby it's cold outside ...
(Radio announcer, Groundhog Day)

Yep, it's winter here in Oz, and even sunny Queensland has been feeling the cold in the south-east corner. To give us Antipodeans flashbacks of what summer is like, our Tuesday with Dorie treat this week is Honey Peach Icecream, chosen by Tommi of Brown Interior.

As the name suggests, this frozen treat is icecream with a peach and honey flavour. It is easy enough to make if you have an icecream maker, and is rather delicious, especially when sandwiched between two gingernut biscuits:

The only changes that I made to the recipe were: (a) I used canned peaches in natural juice, as peaches and all other stone fruits are out of season here; (b) I didn't add any peach chunks that were not pureed to the icecream, as quite a few TWD members remarked in the forum that these frozen fruit chunks were not a favourable addition; and (c) I added a teaspoon of amaretto to the mixture, as other TWD members said that the alcohol prevents the icecream from setting too hard.

You can check out what the other TWD members thought of this icecream by visiting the
Tuesdays with Dorie blogroll. Thanks to Tommi, our host this week, who has kindly published the icecream recipe on her site.

Funny to think that your making ice cream in winter. I don't suppose it's snowing?
Love the idea of an ice cream sandwich! I wish that I too had left those nasty hunks of fruit out. Well done!

I'm glad you liked it. I don't really care for peaches so I ended up subbing plums. it was terribly bitter. It came out looking beautiful, but I tossed it all down the sink. :-P my fruit must not have been that good. SIGH Oh well, onward to next week! LOL

Glad you liked this one! Pureeing all the fruit was a good call (that's what I get for being ahead on the recipes!)

That ice cream sandwich looks so good! I pureed all of my fruit as well. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow!

Peach and honey are made for each other. I can imagine how flavourful the ice cream might be.

I used canned peaches too.

I just didn't want to have to boil peaches...plus I didn't have any.

Your Honey Peach Ice Cream sandwich sounds delicious - I love anything with ginger!
My custard curdled a bit but thanks to your comment in the P&Qs, I still used it and it came out fine after churning in the ice cream maker! Thanks!

LOl - no snow here Clivia, but there is in parts of Victoria and the other alpine regions. It was a good tip to leave out the peach chunks!

Hi Tammy, I think it worked well too. I don't think I'd like frozen pieces of fruit.

Oh no Amanda! But as you say, onwards and upwards.

Thanks Leslie - but by someone going first, they can guide the rest of us, and I thank you and the other TWDers for the tips.

Hi Jules, I hope you liked your finished result.

Hi Lorraine, yes, many of the really yummy fruits have way too short a season - but I guess we appreciate them more while they last. (I tend to stock up big on berries.)

Thanks Natalia, and it did :)

LOL Happy Cook, wish it could be yours!

Thanks Maria. It was a really nice icecream, and proves that my first ever batch of homemade strawberry (which was so so) was an aberration.

Hi Tommi, the amaretto was a perfect complement to the peach. Thanks for hosting us this week!

Thanks Kim - I had some left over ginger nuts frpom another project, and it was serendipitous that I tried the sandwich.

Thanks Teanna - yes, the sandwich was great.

Welcome back Wendy, thanks!

Hi Purple Fooide, I agree - it was a lovely flavour combination.

LOL Tanya - necessity is the mother of invention ;)

Hi LA, not a problem - glad to have helped. I knew I wasn't going to start again so I just kept going, and I was really pleased when the freezing process fixed everything.

Oooh ice cream sandwiches! Good idea!

It's so weird to think it's cold there while it's blazing hot here. Drink some hot cocoa and try to stay warm!

I GOTTA go make cookies. Perfect use of a great ice cream.

Glad I am not the only one who remembers 'peachy keen.'

That's very brave of you to make ice cream in winter. Your idea of using peach compote sounds great. I always used to serve ice cream with peaches and loved the combo but never tried using it in ice creams.

Hi Pamela, 'twas yummy, especially as an icecream sandwich :).

Thanks Em, will do!

Thanks on both counts Rosie - I thought it would be easy to chnage the background as I was using ready to upload matreial, but it still took quite some fiddling.

LOL TeaLady - at least there's two of us!

It is lovely in icecream Ivy.

LOL Duckie - very cute.
